The Beginning

I’m new to book blogging/bookstagramming/ but I wanted to make a post to introduce myself.   So I tried making media reviews on youtube   but I couldn’t keep it up regularly.   So I’m thinking of doing reviews on Instagram and on this blog and eventually building up to doing reviews on youtube again.   So who am I?   Well I mod on fandomshatepeopleofcolor and fandomshatewomen and a few other blogs as mod ali.   I’ve been analyzing media critically for diversity as well as the fandoms for over five years but I’m just now thinking about doing it seriously instead of just for fandom discussions.   I think as someone who’s introverted when depressed it felt safe to talk about fandom trends from the safety of a community of mods but now I’d like to venture out on my own. I’m not leaving the blogs I co mod but I’d just like to be more methodical about sharing my opinions as I read instead of waiting for someone to ask at the blogs.   I also have ...

Memories of the Roadtrip

We went in late July-early August and apparently they have a “monsoon” type rain cycle in the desert. I remember the heat of Arizona threatening to melt my cheap flipflops as my sister gathered some things from the van before taking a siesta. It was strange seeing the Grand Canyon with fog and mists on the horizon. As we drove away the next few days thunderstorms were our companions. The vast desert landscapes (now with lake sized puddles of water) gave way to the mesas on the horizon of New Mexico. I remember my ears getting that feeling that you get when you go to Bakersfield and the elevation changes. Everything is endless on the road and apparently there...

I want to run a marathon

Image
I just heard about the Boston Marathon and I watched this of the first explosion. It made me gag and cry.  I can’t imagine how it must have been for those present.   I didn’t know what to think and thought the person who did this terrible thing.  Was the point to ruin was supposed to be a triumphant day?  My thoughts came fast and jumbled until I from some insane part of me I thought, “It makes me want to run a marathon.” I’ve never run a marathon before. Never really saw the point of it really.  I want to say that its because I’ve been unhealthy and out of shape but the truth is I never liked the idea of all that pain.  I do admire the people who push themselves to the edge of human resistance. So what about running a marathon? Like a “giant f*** you!” to whoever did this.  I want them to know they didn’t succeed in ruining this day completely, those running towards the finish line, and towards the blast, those running ...
